These items suggest a story. Here we have the draft notice and classification notice for one Elmer Denney, of Chicago, Illinois. Also included is a 1 page, double sided letter to Elmer, now stationed in California, from a friend in the 542nd Engineers, which was part of the American Expeditionary Forces in France. The writer, a man named Herb, complains about French food (?!), bad weather and boredom, but also indicates that the Germans are 'getting some licking now'.The original envelope is included with the letter.
