Superb Victorian c1860s-1870s 14k Gold Rich Garnet Cabochon Brooch
Presented is a stunning Victorian garnet brooch in 14 karat gold. This is probably an Italian piece, maybe American, and it dates to the 1860s-1870s. The brooch is done in a lovely Etruscan revival design, very ornate. The center of the brooch is set with a large round garnet cabochon, of a deep, rich red color. Due to the closed back, this stone looks a lot darker in the photos than it is in real life. At the four cardinal points around the brooch is a gold fleur de lis. The gold of the brooch is finely textures. Around the stone and the rim is intricately done wire work. This is a real head-turner of a pin, large and of a good weight.
This piece is in good overall condition. There are some minor surface abrasions to the garnet cabochon. There is some damage to the wire work around the rim. There is some solder at either side of the clasp, which is a replacement. The hinge and clasp have been nicely reinforced.
This piece has been nitric acid tested and is guaranteed 14 karat gold.
