Fabulous Victorian 14k Gold Opal Lapel Pin Brooch Clip
Presented is a wonderful Victorian 14 karat gold and opal lapel pin or brooch. This piece is probably of American make, and dates to the second half of the 1800s. The pin is done in the shape of a butterfly, with fabulously done openwork wings. Each wing is set with two oval cabochons of opal, with lovely fire, with the larger top cabochons being white opal and the bottom cabochons being more translucent, for a nice contrast. The body of the butterfly is beautifully hand engraved with a cross hatched design. The pin has an interesting spring mechanism, with a pincer design rather than a pin shaft.
The pin is in great condition. The spring mechanism is strong. There are no breaks and no repairs.
This piece is tested and guaranteed 14 karat gold.
The butterfly has a wingspan of about 1 1/8 inches.
This piece weighs 3.9 grams.
