Description:Antique Victorian 14K Yellow & Rose Gold, Horse Head, Shell, Crescent Moon, Four-Leaf Clover & Anchor "Good Fortune" Brooch, c. late 19th century
This fantastic and absolutely unique brooch is something you don't come by every day
This late Victorian brooch comprised from various symbols of good luck and, thus, constitutes a Good Fortune
Centering is superbly rendered in fantastic dimension a head of a horse. Finely textured, the gold displays a subtle shimmer, the features are crisp and life-like. Its reins are fine twisted gold ropes and fastened by a small gold star
The universal symbol of a Horse is freedom. I was also told (although I can't find any information to confirm), that a star fastened reins represent fortune
The ring, just below horse's neck is, presumably, a wedding or faith ring, which symbolizes faith and commitment in relationship. The hollow ring is finely adorned by hand in decorative scrolling repousse
Behind horse's head is a Bivalve shell, which symbolizes good fortune, womb and fertility. The shell is realistically hand crafted in both, yellow and rose gold. The raised sections are rose gold, while grooved sections are yellow gold
The horse is adorned on the side with a crescent moon and a small star decorated with tiny pearls. The symbolic meaning of a crescent is feminine power, fertility and new beginnings
To the side of the horse is a small four-leaf clover with green glass center which tops the anchor
The clover is rendered in 14K yellow gold, the anchor is rendered in 14k rose gold
Anchor symbolic meaning - fidelity
The leaves of four-leaf clovers are said to stand for faith, hope, love, and luck
The mounting is a hollow satin finish bar resembling a log. It is rendered in 14K satin finish yellow gold with ends finished in 14K rose gold
The craftsmanship is superb! This brooch is surely a collector's item!
Original pin fitting with c clasp closure.
Indistinct hallmark on the pin stem
The brooch was acid tested in several places and confirmed 14K
