Description
I am offering this fabulous antique Victorian era pearl brooch by Tiffany & Co. It comes in its original fitted box. The box is marked Tiffany & Co., 550 Broadway New York.Charles Lewis Tiffany opened his emporium at 259 Broadway in New York City in 1837. Ten years later, Tiffany moved his enterprise to 271 Broadway, then to 550 Broadway in 1853 and, in 1870, to Union Square and 15th Street. That dates this brooch to between 1853 and 1870.
The brooch is made of many natural pearls and seed pearls mounted on a mother of pearl backing with
horse hair. The largest center pearl measures 5.3-5.5 mm's.
The overall condition appears to be good. Some tiny pearls may be missing but nothing obvious. The brooch measures 2.25" by 1.38". It does not have any hallmarks. It has been acid tested at 18k yellow gold. The backing matches up perfectly with the fittings in the box so it is for sure the original brooch for this box. It has an old "C" clasp and works as it should.
