AMAZING ANTIQUE ITALIAN GRAND TOUR 15K GOLD MICROMOSAIC DANCING COUPLE BROOCH

Description

A fabulous quality, good sized antique Italian micromosaic; set in polished black glass and superbly depicting a dancing couple in typical country dress of the time. It's in a high quality solid 15 carat gold frame (tests) with twist bezel, for wear as a pin and is in its original high quality, unusual shape and fully fitted period box.
Items like this were brought back by the European gentry as souvenirs from their Grand Tours, this is a high quality piece with a highly sought-after subject in unusually excellent condition, and in its original box too!
It dates from around 1870 and is in excellent, fully wearable condition throughout, with no loss or damage to brooch or box. The dark line to the lady's leg is original to manufacture. It's possible the c-clip is an early replacement, even so it's rare to find an example like this in such good condition. It weighs 28.2 grams unboxed and measures 2 x 1 ¾ inches. The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coin for scale, which measures 19 mm / ¾ of an inch diameter.
