    Description

Handsome, detailed fold-out 1946 map of the Indian subcontinent, printed one year before the partition of British India, more than 74 years ago.
    This map opens up to a generous 63.5 x 76 cm [25" x 30"] and is drawn on a scale of 1:6,000,000.
Details include roads, railroads, oil pipe lines, canals, principal cities, and natural features.
There are insets of Bombay and Calcutta, and the map was published by the National Geographic Society in 1946.
The coverage area includes Afghanistan, present-day Pakistan and Myanmar, and Ceylon (Sri Lanka).
The map offers a fascinating window into the political makeup of this vast region just prior to the Partition, which resulted in the dissolution of the British Indian Empire.
